Google in collaboration with ASUS released the Nexus 7 in July 2012, which became the first device to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. The tablet has been very popular in its category, but now the Nexus 7 is seeing a price drop.
Canadian customers can now buy the Nexus 7 32GB Wi-Fi version for $239 at retailers like Best Buy, Staples and Future Shop. The Google Play Store sells the 32GB version of the tablet for $259.
"It's rare that we Canadians see a price drop on the Google Nexus 7 tablet. The only time this has happened is when Google introduced the HSPA+ model a few months ago. Best Buy, Future Shop and Staples Canada have taken the opportunity to reduce the cost of the 32GB WiFi Nexus 7 by $30 to a low $239 - this is also $20 cheaper than what Google is selling it for via Google Play. The sale is good until April 2nd," reports Mobile Syrup.
The Nexus 7 sports a 7-inch display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution and 216 pixels per inch (ppi). A Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core chip powers the device. The Nexus 7 comes in 16/32 GB of on-board storage options and 1GB of RAM.
Integration with Google Play, built-in Wi-Fi, and near field communication (NFC) connectivity makes the Nexus 7 a full entertainment device serving as a platform for multimedia, e-books, television programs, films, games and music.
Recent rumors indicate that the tablet will see a refreshed version in May 2013, which will have several enhancements like a Full HD resolution and an industrial design with a thinner display.
Even though Google has not dropped the prices of the tablet in Google Play Store, does the price reduction at online retailers mean that the next-generation Nexus 7 is on its way?
