E-retailer Amazon has finally launched the 7-inch and 8.9-inch variants of its Kindle Fire HD in India. The tablet makes its debut in the country nearly a year after it was announced in Sept. 2012.
According to an NDTV report, "Amazon has announced the availability of its Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HD 8.9 tablets in the Indian market. The company has also launched its premium ebook reader, the Kindle Paperwhite in the Indian market."
The 16GB variants of the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD and 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD will sport a price tag of Rs.15,999 ($275) and Rs.21,999 ($379), respectively. The 32GB version of the tablets will set users back by Rs.18,999 ($327) and Rs.25,999 ($448) for the 7-inch and 8.9-inch versions, respectively.
"Not only does Kindle Fire feature advanced hardware, it's also a service," opined Dave Limp, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. "The combination of the leading apps, the largest book selection, great email and browsing and top rated customer service, we hope our customers in India will agree that Kindle Fire HD is the best tablet for a great price."
Consumers in India can purchase games, apps and books for the tablets at Amazon.com and pay either in Rupees or USD, depending on "what credit or debit card you use."
The Kindle Fire HD has a 7-inch LCD screen with 1280×720 pixels reolution and is powered by a 1.2 GHz TI OMAP4460 dual-core processor. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9, on the other hand, has a slightly bigger 8.9-inch display with 1920 x 1200 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core OMAP4470 processor.
Both the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD and the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablets will be available for purchase June 27 onward from Amazon.in. The tablets can also be purchased from over 100 retail locations including Croma, Reliance Digital and E-Zone stores.
