Samsung recently launched the Galaxy S4 Zoom smartphone, which integrates features of a good camera in a handset. Now the company seems to be on track to launch a top-end Galaxy Camera 2 at an event scheduled for June 20 in London.
Till now, smartphone and tablet enthusiasts have been happy with the release of an array of Samsung devices and now the company's CEO has announced plans to launch Galaxy Camera 2.
According to a Korea Times report, JK Shin, CEO of Samsung, has confirmed a plan to release the successor of the Galaxy Camera, the Galaxy Camera 2, on June 20.
Shin said, "Samsung will release our latest mirrorless camera that runs on Google's Android software."
A mirrorless camera means the existence of an interchangeable lens system, suggesting that the new Galaxy Camera may be similar to Samsung's NX range of cameras than to its cheaper point-and-shoot cameras.
The Galaxy Camera did not appeal to many customers so Samsung will have to deploy its best in the Galaxy Camera 2 to make sure that more and more customers buy the device. The original Galaxy Camera packed in a 16.3-megapixel sensor while rumors suggest that the Galaxy Camera 2 will be equipped with a 20.9-megapixel sensor.
Even though Shin indicates that the company plans for to launch a mirrorless camera, he doesn't directly address Galaxy Camera 2. However, the June 20 event is about Galaxy devices and as the Galaxy Camera is a part of Samsung's Galaxy series, we hope that the next-generation camera will make an appearance at this event.
The latest Galaxy S4 comes running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and the Galaxy Camera runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The recently-launched mid-range Galaxy Ace 3 smartphone will also come running on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, so it is anybody's guess which operating system the upcoming Galaxy Camera 2 will have.
