We recently reported that Google is expected to be planning on holding a press event in July to announce its next-generation Nexus 7 tablet. The tablet is once again being built by ASUS, the current OEM supplying Google with the Nexus 7. The FCC label indicates that this tablet is a Nexus device and the filing reveals most of its specs.
The next-generation Nexus 7 is going by model number K009 and lists ASUS and Nexus under brand name in the FCC filing. The tablet will be powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro processor with Adreno graphics. Google will also include a rear-camera on the tablet, something the current generation Nexus 7 lacks. The camera is expected to be a 5-megapixel shooter based on previous leaks. While the FCC filing does not list screen size, the 3950 mAh battery is similar to the 4235 mAh found on the current Nexus 7. Previous rumors have reported the tablet as having an improved 7-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.
As far as connectivity goes, Google is expected to offer the new Nexus 7 in a WiFi and WiFi + 4G LTE option according to the FCC filing. The current Nexus 7 ships in a WiFi and WiFi + 3G option, so the inclusion of 4G LTE will put it on par with the iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 in the small size tablet category. A recent report claimed that Google might price the new Nexus 7 a little higher than the original, at $229, compared to tye existing $199.
The listing also reveals that the tablet will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which will likely make it the first device to run the latest version of Android out of the box. Google will most likely announce Android 4.3 at its press event; a July 30 date has been making the rounds as a likely launch date for the next-generation Nexus 7.
