With competition intensifying in the smaller tablet space, consumers are spoilt for choice and the latest entrant Huawei's MediaPad 7 Vogue is looking to shake things up.
The 7-inch Android-powered tablet from the Taiwan-based company will look to throw the gauntlet to the Nexus 7 and iPad mini and eat into their market share.
"Building on the popularity of the HUAWEI MediaPad series, we've created a new tablet that caters to fashionistas, technology seekers, entertainment junkies, and people who simply expect more from their technology," notes Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumers Business Group, per the press release. "We're delighted to introduce the MediaPad 7 Vogue, our call-enabled tablet with world-class entertainment capabilities and long-lasting battery power. The MediaPad 7 Vogue is a perfect example of Huawei's dedication to making extraordinary experiences possible."
The MediaPad 7 Vogue features a 5-point multi-touch IPS display with a 1024 x 600 pixels resolution. It will be available in both 3G and Wi-Fi only models. The device is powered by Huawei's own K3V2 Cortex-A9 quad-core processor, which is clocked at 1.2GHz.
The tablet houses 1GB of RAM and 8GB of on-board storage (expandable memory option up to 32FB available via a microSD card). The MediaPad 7 Vogue also features a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera that supports 1080p video at up to 30 fps. The tablet also packs in a 0.3-megapixel secondary camera for video calls and/or self portraits. The device has a 4,100mAh battery and will come pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Huawei's Emotion UI skin running on top.
While the specs of the Huawei tablet are nothing to write home about, notably, the MediaPad 7 Vogue supports the ability to make calls. This feature puts the tablet at par with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3.
The Huawei MediaPad 7 Vogue will be available in two hues: black and white. The Android-powered tablet is slated to release in China later this month followed by other markets. Huawei did not disclose a price tag for the device, but judging by the not-so-powerful specs, it seems that the MediaPad 7 Vogue will not burn a hole in your wallet.
