Seiki’s new 39-inch Ultra HD TV delivers 4k for $699

As Sony rolled out a pair of new 4k Ultra HD TVs, both with price tags in the high four-figures, Seiki announced another entry in its lineup of affordable 4k sets: a 39-inch Ultra HD television that will cost just $699.

The new TV will arrive sometime by the end of June and will be unveiled for the first time at the CE Week Line Shows and Exhibits in New York, which runs from June 26-27.

Seiki is quickly becoming known as a go-to brand for low-priced 4k television sets and computer monitors. The 39-inch TV is the company's second Ultra HD set to ship stateside. In April, Seiki released a 50-inch HD TV for $1,500 and has already announced a 65-inch model that will hit stores sometime in the fall.

"The first SEIKI 50-inch 4K model was the most talked about Ultra HDTV this year with its stunning picture quality and incredible price point," said Frank Kendzora, executive vice president for Seiki in a press statement. "With the introduction of the SEIKI 39-inch 4K model, SEIKI has made 4K Ultra HDTVs even more affordable and ideal for PC users wanting to experience next-generation 4K computing. SEIKI will continue to expand its 4K Ultra HDTV line in 2013 to help accelerate the adoption of 4K digital entertainment and make it accessible to every consumer in the U.S. market."

Though Seiki's new 39-inch model is no doubt one of the most affordable Ultra HD offerings currently on the market, it's likely that the set's relatively small screen will make it difficult to discern much benefit from its 4k capabilities. The TV nonetheless boasts a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 and has a 120Hz refresh rate on a 1080p signal, with 30Hz on a 4k signal.

While it's doubtful that Seiki's offerings will provide the same level of quality as some of the more highly priced Ultra HD TVs on the market, you can at least buy several of them for the cost of one Sony 4k BRAVIA set.
