As fans wait eagerly for Samsung to unveil its much-awaited phablet, the Galaxy Note 3, the rumor mills are busy churning out speculations once again. Word's on the street that the Galaxy Note 3 will come with an LCD screen instead of the Super AMOLED Full HD display.
The latest news comes from Daum, which reveals that Samsung will allegedly use LCDs made by Sharp.
Per an Android Authority report, "According to the Korean publication Daum, Samsung is considering using liquid crystal displays, at least for a part of the Galaxy Note 3 production."
Earlier in April, reports suggested that the Galaxy Note 3 will tout the world's first plastic organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen.
"Samsung Electronics Company (SEC) will exhibit a new Galaxy NOTE 3, featuring an unbreakable OLED display at IFA 2013 in September and plans to launch the product in Q4'2013. Based on our research, SDC will utilize a plastic substrate with an LTPS active matrix and RGB patterned OLED," noted a report by the OLED Association at the time.
Prior to the launch of the Galaxy S4, speculations were rife that the smartphone would use LCD panels instead of AMOLED, but as it turned out Samsung launched the flagship with a FULL HD AMOLED screen and not LCD. However, the Korean company has deployed LCD screens for the rugged variant of the smartphone, the waterproof and dust resistant Galaxy S4 Active.
Apparently, the Full HD screens of the OLED variety are difficult to manufacture, especially given the several million units Samsung would need given the popularity of the Note 3's predecessors. Therefore, a possibility exists that the company could use LCD panels instead.
