It seems that Google Now will be making its way to Chrome and will be introduced in both Windows and OS X.
While the option to enable Google Now in both Chrome and Chrome OS has been available for users for weeks, the service is yet to go live. Now, reports suggest that users are being prompted to "Enable Google Cards Now" in Chrome and indications are that Google Now notifications are set to make a transition from Android to other platforms as well.
According to a CNET report, "Google Now notifications are expanding from Android to Chrome, and now the service can show information on TV shows you're watching and sales offers you've signaled interest in."
The site further notes that both Chrome and Chrome OS have had a flag, which allows users to enable Google Now for a while now; however, this "hasn't been connected to an actual Google server."
Interestingly, now a notification is appearing which asks users "Enable Google Now Cards -- Would you like to be shown Google Now cards?"
Moreover, the Google Now prompt has appeared both in Windows and Windows OS X, and there's apparently a dedicated control panel that allows the specification of which notifications a particular user will receive.
"I got the prompt to enable Google Now for Chrome through a menu bar item on OS X 10.8 and a status bar item on Windows 8. Though it's not yet clear if notifications are actually active, the fact that Chrome is asking people to enable the service shows Google is making steady progress toward that goal," said Stephen Shankland of CNET.
With Google supposedly looking to deploy Google Now on other platforms as well, it bodes well for the development of the feature in the long term.
