AT&T Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41-megapixel camera leaks in new image

The Nokia Lumia 1020 will become the company's flagship smartphone and its killer feature is its 41-megapixel camera.

The leaked image shows off the smartphone and its AT&T branding for the first time. Although critics and analysts have been calling for Nokia to adopt Android, the company remains committed to its exclusive relationship with Microsoft. Nokia only uses Windows Phone as the smartphone operating system of choice, unlike Samsung and HTC who use both Android and Windows Phone to power their handsets. This exclusive relationship with Microsoft has allowed Nokia to achieve greater success than other Windows Phone licensees, since Microsoft allows Nokia to add features and customize some of the operating system for its Lumia series. This privilege does not extend to other licensees. This has also helped Windows Phone surpass BlackBerry recently, grabbing the number 3 spot in smartphone OS market share, since the majority of Windows Phones sold are Nokia Lumias. As a new flagship Lumia is getting ready to launch, the first image of the device has already leaked.

Evleaks posted the above image of the Lumia 1020 and the handset seems to retain Nokia's signature Lumia design. The smartphone will keep its volume rocker, power button, and dedicated camera button on the right side of the device. The image also shows an AT&T logo, confirming earlier rumors that the device will be making its way to AT&T very soon. A new "Nokia Pro Cam" app can be seen on the smartphone's display as a Live Tile, indicating that Nokia will add a more feature rich camera app to take advantage of its 41-megapixel camera.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is expected to feature a 4.5-inch 768 x 1280 AMOLED ClearBlack Display and run Windows Phone 8. It will reportedly will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and have 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, a 41-megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and Xenon flash, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/c/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, wireless charging out of the box and a non-removable 2,000 mAh battery. The Lumia 1020 will actually be Nokia's third flagship smartphone launched this year and it will most likely be an AT&T exclusive. Nokia gave T-Mobile the exclusive on the Lumia 925 and Verizon got the exclusive on the Lumia 928, both of which are the company's current flagship smartphones.

AT&T customers will be happy to know that a new flagship Lumia is on its way, as the Lumia 1020 should make its debut in the near future. Nokia will be holding an event on July 11 where it is expected to officially unveil the Nokia Lumia 1020.
