Unwanted Apple AirTag Tracking No More? Tech Company Release Update to Address the Issue

Apple announced that an upcoming software update will improve the Apple AirTag experience for its users. The software update is expected to fix the unwanted AirTag tracking that has been experienced b multiple AirTag users.

The Apple AirTag was announced last year during Spring. Unfortunately, numerous reports from the media and police authorities have been brought to the attention of Apple due to the incidents caused by tracking.

However, the upcoming software changes are expected to resolve the unwanted tracking problem.

Apple plans to modify how AirTags work in response to the worrying feedback from consumers, safety experts, and law enforcement agencies.

As reported by TechCunch, a new set of privacy settings will be expected by Apple users. When setting up AirTag, Apple users can expect privacy warnings to appear during the AirTag setup process in order to prevent unwanted use of the device.

This warning is intended to discourage people from using AirTags for purposes other than tracking their own personal belongings, which is what they were intended for.

Informing users that tracking people without their consent is illegal and that law enforcement can request identifying information about the owner of an AirTag is one of the campaign's main goals.

According to Apple, the first set of updates consists of new privacy warnings, alerts, and documentation.

Apple Bug Fixing Update

The confusion around the unwanted tracking is caused by a bug that Apple is going to fix in this update. Some users misidentify the "Unknown Accessory Alert" notification as a notice from the AirTag even if the Airpods cause it.

According to MacRumors, AirTags‌ cannot display the "Unknown Accessory Detected" notification, which AirPods Pro causes, AirPods Max, third-generation AirPods, and the Find My network accessory.

In a report made by MacRumors, Apple seems to be working on this new set of safety features to be released this year.

  • Updated unwanted tracking alerts

Apple is planning to update its alert system to notify users more quickly if they are traveling with an unknown AirTag or Find My network accessory.

  • Precision Finding

When an iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13 user receives an unwanted tracking notification, Apple is designing a feature wherein they can track and locate receive the unknown AirTag with precision similar to the Precision Finding feature AirTag.

  • Louder AirTag sound

A user can instruct the AirTag to play a sound to make it easier to locate a device when an iOS user receives an unwanted tracking alert. Apple will change the tone volume to utilize the loudest tones to make AirTags louder and easier to find.

  • Display alert with sound

Another feature reportedly coming is a display alert on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch so that users who are separated from their belongings can track down their items via sound or Precision Finding.
