Alienware, a subsidiary of the tech giant Dell, has revealed more details about its 34" QD-OLED gaming monitor, which was first introduced during CES 2022.
Aside from this, the company has also introduced a gaming headset which only costs $199.
Alienware Introduces 34" QD-OLED Gaming Monitor
For context, Ars Technica reported that the Samsung first unveiled QD-OLED or Quantum Dot-Organic Light Emitting Diode last month, with TVs and monitors anticipated this year.
This newly revealed OLED panel is expected to deliver the same deep blacks and rich contrast that have made OLED popular among HDR users, gamers, and anybody looking for a sharp image.
Furthermore, this technology is different among the existing OLED-based devices since it employs a blue OLED material that passes through a layer of quantum dots. Ars Technica further emphasize that the quantum dots are designed to provide vibrant color regardless of the brightness level on the screen.
Aside from this, it also gives better detail in emphasized regions.
Since it appears to provide a promising features, the Alienware QD-OLED gaming monitor referred to as AW3423DW will cost a fortune.
For those curious to know more about the monitor, the display promises to cover 99.3 percent of the DCI-P3 color space, and with an average brightness of 250 nits, it is predicted to be less bright than many recent LED displays.
It also offers a 3440 x 1400 resolution, a 175Hz refresh rate, a rapid 0.1ms reaction rate is also expected, as well as compatibility for Nvidia's G-Sync Ultimate technology.
In addition to this, Alienware posted an announcement on its official Twitter that it "will arrive early this Spring for $1,299 USD."
Despite the price, The Verge explained that the Alienware monitor is still less expensive than some of the newer OLED monitors. For instance, the LG 32-inch Ultrafine UHD OLED display costs $3,999, despite the fact that it is not ideal for gaming.
Meanwhile, Alienware's 55-inch OLED gaming monitor is presently available for $2,719 on Amazon, down from $3,999 when it was initially announced in 2019.
Difference of OLED and QD-OLED
Trusted Reviews explained that on paper, the QD-OLED appears to have the upper hand because of its greater peak and average brightness, which aids HDR and color expression.
OLED is a more established technology that can be made in a variety of sizes, from 42 inches to 97 inches, whereas QD-OLED TVs can only be made in 55 and 65-inch sizes
The continuous affordability of OLED will only boost it, whereas QD-OLED is considered as a high-end TV player. There's only a little overlap here since OLED has put more effort into breaking into the mainstream TV market.
OLED is the safest and presumably less costly option, but QD-OLED will gain traction, and there's little question it will bring about a new era in television.
Alienware Tri-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset
Aside from the competitive QD-OLED monitor, the company also introduced Tri-Mode Wireless Gaming Headset which is identified as AW920H.
For its feature, Tom's Hardware detailed that it will be equipped with Dolby Atmos Virtual Surround Sound, which will also employ a 40-mm Hi-Res Certified Drivers to span a wide frequency range and engage players in the game.
To decrease external noise in-game and in the surrounding environment, the headset has Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) and an AI-driven Noise-Canceling microphone.
The Leatherette and Memory Foam earcups have an Alienware Legend 2.0 in-house design that looks like an exhaust turbine from a science fiction spacecraft. Each cup has an alien head emblem in the middle, which is illuminated like the company's computers.
