Apple's App Store turns five soon and to celebrate the occasion, the company has reduced the price of several popular apps and games and if that wasn't enough it is giving away some top iOS games for free.
According to The Verge, a "host of highly regarded apps for iPhone and iPad have gone free today in what could be a major celebration to mark five years since Apple launched the App Store."
Apple has not made any official announcement or declared the promo via an official press release. While there is no comprehensive list of apps that have received price cuts or are now free, iOS users will welcome the news as there are plenty of savings to be made.
The price cuts range between $0.99 to $19.99. The games that are now available for free on the App Store include Badland, Infinity Blade II, Tiny Wings, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP and more. Since there is no official list it is likely there are more apps which are a part of the promo.
The apps that are now free are Day One, Barefoot World Atlas, Over, and Traktor DJ for iPad (usually costs $19.99).
It is not known at this juncture till when the Apple promotion will last. The only hiny comes from the Epic Games' mention which reveals Infinity Blade II will be "free for a limited time."
This is apparently the first time these apps are being offered for free on the App Store and considering some apps cost as much as $20, now is a good time to take advantage of the price cuts or free download offers. The move to make top games and apps free will benefit Apple as there will be a surge in download figures. Moreover, several consumers may also look to buy in-app purchases.
Apple App Store's celebrates its fifth anniversary on Wednesday, July 10. It is expected that Apple makes an official announcement about the promotion ahead of the occasion.
