"Peacemaker" Season 1 is officially ending on Feb 17 at midnight. However, James Gunn and John Cena just confirmed that a Season 2 is coming! They announced the news on their social media pages.
All things come to an end, so it was inevitable that fans had to say their goodbyes to the helmet-wearing antihero nitwit called Peacemaker. Its season one finale is scheduled to stream on Thursday at HBO Max. After that, fans thought they had to search for a different DC series to fill the void that "Peacemaker" left behind.
So it comes as a pleasant surprise that the series confirmed a season 2! Unfortunately, not many details were revealed about this upcoming show.
John Cena Tweets: 'Peacemaker' Season 2 Confirmed
Sometime Wednesday, Feb 16, Peacemaker-actor John Cena and series director James Gunn posted a GIF on their Twitter pages. The post featured the "Peacemaker" squad with the text "Season 2" in front of them!
Cena tweeted that "it's been a privilege to work on this show and with the cast, crew, and HBO Max team." He also added "elated to say we'll be back to create more peace for Season."
Gunn's version of the announcement was complimentary to Cena's post. He said "That's right, Peacemaker is coming back for Season Two. Thanks to Peter Safran, John Cena, our incredible cast & crew, our wildly supportive & lovely friends at HBO Max - and mostly all of you for watching!"
'Peacemaker' Season 2 Cast and Plot
As previously mentioned, the announcement never revealed anything specific about "Peacemaker" Season 2. However, sources from Gizmodo said Cena will reprise the role of Christopher Smith (aka Peacemaker), while Season 2 will be written and directed by Gunn!
So this means there shouldn't be major changes on the series that fans have grown to love!
Other casts who might return are Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Chukwudi Iwuji, Jennifer Holland, and Steve Agee. However, this is only possible if the characters survive the Season 1 finale.
'Peacemaker' Season 2 Release Date
It is worth pointing out that "Peacemaker" is a breakout success on HBO Max. According to IGN, the series is currently recognized as one of the most-watched shows in 2022.
The show also attracted a lot of social media presence, which earned it the title "#1 new original streaming series for social engagement on Twitter." These are all very surprising achievements, given the fact that it streamed together with a new "Star Wars" series.
Overall, its popularity only goes to show how many fans are cheering for a "Peacemaker" Season 2. Hopefully, fans won't have to wait too long after the series finale. Fans are recommended to bookmark Cena and Gunn's Twitter accounts for more updates. They should also watch out for HBO Max announcements related to the series.
