Apple fans can look forward to two exciting reveals later this 2022. First is Apple's next-generation version of its powerful M1 silicon chip, which will be called "M2." Second is the rumored debut of several new Macs, which would feature the M2 chip!
Many fans are probably familiar with the Apple M1, which is an in-house chip that is slowly replacing Intel Silicon architecture on most Apple devices. Notably, this chip delivers a performance boost on the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini equipped with it.
Apple is reportedly taking advantage of its previous success by expanding its chip's technology. Now, Macrumors explained everything there is to know about the incoming devices.
Apple M2 Chip Specs, Rumors and Features
For reference, the Apple M1 chip debuted in 2020. It eventually revealed an upgraded version called the M1 Pro and M1 Max. It is important to note that tje M1 Pro features 10 CPU cores and 16 GPU cores, while the M1 Max features 10 CPU cores and 32 GPU cores.
Reports claimed that M2 might only feature eight CPU cores, but it will be built with speed and efficiency improvements on a smaller model. Its GPU number might be around 7 to 8-courses.
Admittedly, the number is smaller than M1 Pro and Max. This means M1 Pro and Max will be superior to M2, so Apple users with these chips might retain their devices.
On the flip side, M2 is obviously superior to the base M1 specs. This means Apple users with the M1 chip should consider getting an upgrade.

Apple Mac 2022 Release Date: M2 Chip Teased
Sources from The Verge teased that there should be several new Macs coming later this year. Data miners expect these would be a 13-inch MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, 24-inch iMac and a redesigned MacBook Air.
It should be emphasized that not all Apple Macs will be equipped with the M2 chip. Since Apple follows a pattern of "slight upgrades," two of the older units will still feature the M1 series.
To clarify, the 24-inch iMac is expected to be upgraded with an M1 Pro chip. Its 27-inch version will also be upgraded with the M1 Max chip.
The Mac Mini is reportedly set to get an upgraded M1 Pro chipset. However, it will also have an M2 upgrade option. This implies that the MacBook Pro with the M2 chip could be the highlight of the new Apple Macs, per The Verge.
Data miners from Bloomberg also pointed out that the first batch of the new Macs might debut as early as next month. The incoming presentation will mainly focus on 5G iPhone SE and iPad Air, but at least one Mac might be mentioned on the event.
The rest of the new Macs might be revealed sometime in June, specifically at the Apple WWDC event.
Note that many this information is heavily linked to rumors and leaks, so details are subject to change. Apple has not yet announced anything official, so readers are advised to take this update with a pinch of salt.
