Nokia is expected to officially announce the Lumia 1020 in a few days and a new camera grip and charger accessory for the smartphone has leaked.
The gadget will allow the smartphone to lie flat, give users a better grip and it will also serve as an extended battery.
Nokia will be holding a press event on July 11 in New York City, where it is widely expected to make the Lumia 1020 official. The device has been a highly anticipated smartphone in the Windows Phone world mostly for its whopping 41-megapixel PureView camera. Compared to other smartphone rivals' offerings, a 41-megapixel sensor would certainly give Nokia and Windows Phone some bragging rights in terms of camera and imaging technology.
A recent rumor claimed that Nokia was planning a "camera shell" accessory for the Lumia 1020, designed to fit on the back of the smartphone and raise it so the 41-megapixel camera lens would be leveled out. Leaked images of the smartphone have shown a rather large protruding lens, which would prevent the smartphone from lying flat on its back. An image of the accessory and some details have been leaked ahead of its launch.
The accessory will serve as a case, extended battery, and give users a better grip on the Lumia 1020. The smartphone will slide into the case and connect to its microUSB connector. The case will reportedly include a 1020 mAh battery, which could extend the life of the smartphone by up to 35 percent. It will also allow the Lumia 1020 to lie flat on its back. The shell also has a special grip on it that will make it easier for users to take pictures with one hand. It will allegedly include a camera shutter button, as well as a microUSB port and a jack that will allow users to attach the smartphone to a tripod. The smartphone will also be able to charge while the case is charging. There was no indication of what the price of the accessory will be.
The Lumia 1020 is expected to feature a 4.5-inch 768 x 1280 AMOLED ClearBlack Display, Windows Phone 8 with Lumia Amber update,a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 32GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, a 41-megapixel PureView camera with Carl Zeiss optics, autofocus and Xenon flash, 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/c/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, wireless charging out of the box and a non-removable 2,000 mAh battery. The smartphone is rumored to be an AT&T exclusive in the U.S. when it's released.
