Most households probably own at least one flat-screen TV. If you want to retain the best quality display it could offer, then you should know how to clean TV screens properly.
Be warned that most TV screens are made up of delicate materials, so they can easily be damaged by certain chemicals and the wrong cleaning cloth. This type of damage often accumulates to create blur and dead spots on the display.
So as a general rule, you should only use a microfiber cloth, distilled water, and tiny drops of dishwashing liquid for cleaning. Remember that special sprays and wipes are available for cleaning TV screens in malls, but these could be a bit expensive for daily household cleaning routines.
Before starting the cleanup, you should always turn off the TV and unplug it. Sometimes, it would be better to wait for a few minutes before following the steps provided by HelloTech.
1. Dust off the TV
TV generally attracts a lot of dust because of its static electricity. So the first step for the cleanup is to wipe the dust from the edges of the screen. If you have the extra funds, you can try using a can of compressed air to completely blow away hardened clumps of dust.
2. Wipe the Screen with Distilled Water
After removing all the dust, you can now clean the screen itself. You can do this by spraying some water on the microfiber cloth and wiping the screen with it.
Keep in mind that you only need to dampen the cloth, but never to soak it. Be warned to never apply the liquids directly to the screen because the moisture could damage the electronic pixels.
Always remember that the best way to clean the screen is to move the cloth across the whole length of the screen before moving down.
3. Dry the Screen
Never forget to keep the screen dry after getting rid of all the dust. Otherwise, you may have to start over. Wipe off any excess moisture from the screen by using a different microfiber cloth and following the path of the first cloth.
Note that you could also use the same cloth, but remember to fold and use the dry section. Repeat this process until the TV screen is completely dry.
4. How to Remove Hard Stains
In case of hard stains that won't let leave your TV screen, try mixing a bit of water with a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Remember to mix the cleaner thoroughly before spraying it on a different cloth and applying it to the screen.
You can try using soft circular motions to remove the stubborn stains. But be careful not to press too hard because this could still damage the screen.
5. Wipe the Screen Clean
After removing the stubborn stains, you can reapply steps 2 and 3, and you're done! As previously emphasized, the screen should be left completely dry by the end of the cleaning process.
