Nokia is set to launch a new device at its event scheduled for July 11 and stakes are high that the company will reveal the Lumia 1020.
The Finnish company has not confirmed the launch of the Lumia 1020 or the details of its specifications, but it has teased "41 million reasons" to keep an eye out for its event. Windows Phone 8 (WP8) fans are eagerly waiting to see the highly-anticipated 41-megapixel handset make its debut.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is rumored to be exclusive to U.S. carrier AT&T. The device is also expected to boast top-end features, which can compete with other handsets in its category.
Nokia released the AT&T exclusive Lumia 920 in the later part of 2012 and the smartphone has been one of the most popular Nokia WP8 smartphones. Leaked images of the upcoming Lumia 1020 suggest that the handset will closely resemble the Lumia 920. The Lumia 1020 is also expected to have a polycarbonate body similar to the one of the Lumia 920. What's more, Nokia is reportedly looking to entice consumers by offering the Lumia 1020 in an array of colors.
The most prominent feature of the Lumia 1020, previously dubbed "Nokia EOS," is expected to be the 41-megapixel rear-facing camera, which will be the first in a WP8-powered handset. The handset is also rumored to have a Xenon and LED flash, OIS and possibly a Variable Aperture lens (like the N86), as well as a more detailed camera UI similar to that of on the Nokia PureView 808. Rumors also hint that the handset will have an FM transmitter, a Micro SD card slot for expandable memory and possibly a Micro HDMI out port.
Speculations also hint that Nokia is testing two different models of the Lumia 1020, which will have the same specifications but a different processor: a dual-core version and a quad-core model running the latest Snapdragon 800, which is clocked at 2.3GHz.
The Lumia 1020 is also rumored to feature a 2,000 mAh battery just like sibling Lumia 920. However, with a powerful flash on board, many market observers are of the opinion that the handset could have a bigger battery.
Nokia has not confirmed any details of the Lumia 1020 and, therefore, until the company reveals the exact specifications of the smartphone it's all in the rumor state.
