Great Scott! LEGO fans, it's time to go 88 miles per hour again and back to the future!
Lego recently revealed that it has a brand new three-in-one reproduction of the famed DeLorean time machine featured in "Back to the Future."
LEGO 3-in-1 Time Machine Details
According to LEGO's announcement, its "Back to the Future" Time Machine set, which consists of 1,872 pieces, would allow people to create the DeLorean from either the first, second, or third "Back to the Future" movie. It is rated 18+ due to the set containing a button battery for its electronic parts.
Sven Franic, LEGO Set Designer, said that he had enjoyed reliving his favorite moments from all three "Back to the Future" films during the creation of the set. He also hoped fans would enjoy "racing through time in LEGO-style" with this "Back to the Future" set.
"The shared timelessness of LEGO bricks and the 'Back to the Future' franchise is something we really wanted to capture for this set, so we hope fans will enjoy racing through time in LEGO-style," Franic said.
The DeLorean model in this set measures at least 14-inches long, 8-inches wide, and 5-inches tall.
The company noted that its team faithfully recreated the DeLorean and its various features from the three iconic movies. As such, the set has tires that fold down for flight mode and a light-up flux capacitor. It would also come with a box of (not real) plutonium, Marty McFly's hoverboard from the second movie, and LEGO minifigure versions of Doc Brown and Marty.
However, people will have to choose which DeLorean they like to build first, as each build requires elements from the full set. This notice means that while the LEGO set has parts for the DeLorean, it only has enough for only one.
"All three versions cannot be built simultaneously from the single set," LEGO emphasized.
Interested customers will have to buy three of this particular set if they do want to build three separate "Back to the Future" DeLoreans at the same time.
LEGO 3-in-1 Time Machine Pricing and Release Date
The LEGO "Back to the Future" Time Machine set will be available at Lego stores, Lego's online store, and in Lego.com/bttf from April 1 for $169.99.
The set can also be purchased with LEGO VIP points worth 1105, according to the LEGO online store.
Not the first Back to the Future LEGO Set
This "Back to the Future" set isn't the first in LEGO's repertoire. According to a Gizmodo article, the company previously released a "Back to the Future" set in 2013 through its Cuusoo platform, which is now known as LEGO Ideas.
The platform is where LEGO fans can submit their builds in the hopes of them becoming real sets, while others vote them into becoming one.
However, Gizmodo mentioned that the original set was a disappointment as it lacked detail and functionality, which was remedied in the new set.
