iPhone 15 Pro Leak Features Samsung Technology Used To Hide Face ID

The iPhone 15 Pro will feature a new technology Samsung is creating and designing for Apple.

iPhone 15 Pro Leak: New Design

The iPhone 15 Pro is in the beginning stage of its development in collaboration with Samsung. Samsung Display was currently working on a new under-display camera technology for its customer Apple, which would allow the Face ID sensor to be hidden beneath the display in the next iPhone.

Will the iPhone 14 Cost More Than the iPhone 13? An Apple Analyst Thinks So

According to sources, Samsung Display's technology is expected to be applied first to Samsung Electronics' foldable phones, which are expected to launch next year. Following the design implementation to Samsung foldables, it will next be seen in application to the Pro lineup on the iPhone 15 series.

According to MacRumors, iPhone 15 Pro models will have a different design contrary to what the iPhone 14 is rumored to have. Apple plans to create the iPhone 15 Pro with only a single hole in the front screen which will be the camera.

Utilizing Samsung's technology will allow Apple to hide the Face ID under the display of the iPhone 15 Pro lineup.

Samsung's under-panel technology will make the Face ID sensor appear unnoticeable to the naked eye. This under-panel camera developed by Samsung can also be seen in the Galaxy Z Fold3 smartphone.

Due to the lower pixel density over the under-display camera on the Fold3 when compared to the rest of the display, more light is allowed to reach the camera. However, this results in the camera producing photos that are of relatively low quality.

iPhone 15 Pro:Under Display Camera for Face ID

The iPhone 15 Pro, when Face ID is not in use, is designed for the sensor to be hidden beneath the display panel. Samsung's Under Display Camera designed the technology in collaboration with Canada's OTI Lumionics on its new under-panel camera technology. OTI Lumionics also includes a metal patterning layer made of cathode mask materials and will be used in conjunction with a new under-panel camera.

On the contrary, Samsung Electronics plans to use laser drilling on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 for the under-panel camera, similar to what it did on the Galaxy Fold 3 and the Galaxy Note 8.

Furthermore, Apple has decided to forego the use of laser drilling and is exploring alternative methods of production.

Interestingly, it seems like Samsung and Apple will not be the only ones developing this technology. According to The Elec, LG is also designing their own "LG Display is also developing its own under panel camera technology with the aim to increase the light transmittance rate of the hole to over 40% after 2024."

iPhone 14 Design

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 will both have different designs and will be released in different years. It was previously reported here in iTech Post that according to a tweet from design analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 14 will have a hole punch and pill shape cutouts will be included in all models of the iPhone series 2023.

In light of the ongoing pandemic, it has also been stated that the FaceID recognition on future iPhone devices will be improved. This means that the notch will be present on both of the iPhone 14's lower-priced models.

This improved Face ID feature necessitates a full-screen design that does not include a notch, pill-shaped cutouts, or hole-punching.

This technology will be significant because it will allow users to authenticate their faces without having to take their masks off in the process.
