Elden Ring's "endless death loop" bug is now patched out.
Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco mentioned in its patch notes for Elden Ring's latest patch 1.03.2 that it fixed some bugs that affected players in single-player and multiplayer, most especially.
The patch, which is an extension of its recently released 1.03 patch, is now live and should be available to all of the game's players on all gaming platforms now.
Elden Ring Patch v1.03.2 Details
According to Bandai Namco's patch notes, patch 1.03.2 came with patches for bugs that sometimes prevented players from advancing Nepheli Loux's questline and the one that caused the player character to die when trying to descend from a spot near Bestial Sanctum.
Patch v1.03,2 also comes with fixes for the bug that prevented "Ash of War, Endure" from taking effect.
Most importantly, however, is the fix for the bug in multiplayer mode that allowed players to teleport others to incorrect map coordinates. This particular bug is the one hackers previously exploited to teleport Elden Ring players underneath the game world, leading to an endless death loop and the corruption of their save file, per a separate iTech Post article.
The patch notes did not mention a fix for corrupted save files, which means players would have to delete their corrupted save files entirely or load up a manual backup to continue their journey in The Lands Between.
Details on the 'Endless Death Loop' Bug
According to Polygon's report, the bug, which was previously discovered by players earlier this week, was the result of a reported exploit that could crash players' games on both PC and gaming consoles.
The bug can also be used by hackers to send other players' characters underneath the playable map and fall to their deaths the instant they respawn. Reloading that specific save file or even rebooting the game doesn't fix the issue either, as the player's character will still be under the playable map and repeatedly fall to its death.
Dark Souls III players should be familiar with this bug as a similar exploit was previously encountered in that game; Dark Souls III is another FromSoftware and Bandai Namco game.
There is a workaround for the exploit, as Reddit user u/Draiganedig shared. This workaround involved timing the closing of the game to allow players to open their map once they log back in to access their list of available Sites of Grace and spamming the confirm button to teleport to a Site of Grace. However, this workaround isn't as reliable as players would like it to be.
Eurogamer also mentioned in its article that affected players should opt out of invasions or play offline until the exploit is patched out.
Regardless of the bugs, players should make it a habit to frequently back up their save files to avoid any more headaches in the future.
