Former Avengers Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson Set To Star in Space Race Movie 'Project Artemis'

Chris Evans and Scarlet Johansson are set to appear together on the big screen again in a new Apple film.

According to a Deadline report, the "Avengers" alumni will star in an Apple-purchased project called "Project Artemis," which will be directed by Jason Bateman of "Ozark" fame, per Deadline.

Apple has yet to reveal when the movie will be available in theaters.

'Project Artemis' Details

Deadline's report mentioned that although the details regarding the movie's plot are being kept tightly under wraps, it did hear that it is centered around the space race. According to Hollywood Reporter's article, Rose Gilroy wrote the film's script. She is known for her roles as Jane in the 2019 TV series "The Edge of Sleep" and Cassie in 2019's "State of the State", per her IMDb page.

The report also added that Apple purchased the film for at least $100 million, with CAA cutting the deal on behalf of the producers. This marks as another big purchase for the studio after last year when the company bought the spy film "Argyle" for $200 million, per a separate Deadline article.

Apple is also reported to be in exclusive negotiations to seal the deal for an upcoming blockbuster film starring Brad Pitt, per Motor Sport.

Johansson was said to produce the film with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn through their These Pictures production company, which was said to have to have also commissioned and developed the film's script. Meanwhile, Bateman will also produce through his Aggregate Films production company.

Evans has voiced his excitement over the film, retweeting Deadline's tweet on the movie with the caption "Very Excited!"

Johansson is represented by CAA and Yorn Levine, while CAA, 3Arts, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern does the same for Evans. Bateman will also be represented by CAA, Lighthouse Management + Media, and Hansen Jacobson.

A 'Project Artemis' of Our Own

Meanwhile, outside the big screen, a new space race between private companies and nations is unfolding. China is looking to launch its astronauts into space using reusable rockets, with plans to build a space station of their own and to explore the moon and deep space.

Meanwhile, NASA is also working on its own "Project Artemis" with the Artemis missions, which would take American astronauts, especially the first woman and person of color, to the Moon. These missions will also serve as a development space for the next phase in NASA's plan: sending the first astronauts to Mars.

Furthermore, private companies like Elon Musk's SpaceX and Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin are working on making space tourism more affordable and popular, per Travel Daily News.

However, only billionaires or even millionaires could apply at this time due to the financial cost of current space tourism launches, which are priced at around six figures. Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic, for instance, charges would-be passengers $250,000 for a trip to space, per CNN.
