Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2 to get Android 4.3 and not Android 4.2.2 update

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 may see their handsets updated straight to Android 4.3 rather than Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S3 in May 2012 and the Galaxy Note 2 in August the same year. Both devices have been among the most-wanted Android smartphones of 2012 and have in sold millions of units globally. The Galaxy S3 came packed with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) out of the box and later received the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in many markets. The Galaxy Note 2 came pre-loaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and is now waiting for its next software upgrade.

With the Samsung Galaxy S4 releasing with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, users of Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are eagerly waiting to get the latest operating system on their smartphones, but the update seems to be delayed.

A recent Temefy report, however, claims that both the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 may get a software update in November or December this year and may skip Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean altogether to jump straight to the upcoming Android 4.3 Jelly Bean build.

"An insider from Samsung R&D, India, has just tipped us with the reason for this possible delay. According to the insider, Samsung R&D India is currently working on Jelly Bean 4.2.2 Update as well as the Jelly Bean 4.3 Update for the Galaxy S3, Note 2 as well the the Octa core Version of Galaxy S4 which currently sells in India," reads the report.

Recently, the Google edition of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been spotted running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Google has yet to announce the next Jelly Bean iteration, but all signs point to an imminent release.

Carriers in the U.S. usually get customers to sign a two-year contract to get a new handset. As such, there would be many customers still using Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 and waiting for a software update.

The delay in the release of the next operating system for Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2 may be worth the wait in the end if customers get Android 4.3 Jelly Bean instead of the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
