AT&T's Nokia Lumia 1020 is now up for pre-order from the carrier, with a shipping date of July 23.
Nokia recently launched the much-anticipated Lumia 1020, which will follow the Lumia 920 on AT&T. The Windows Phone 8 (WP8)-powered Lumia 1020 packs in top-end features to entice smartphone buyers, making its debut as Nokia's new flagship.
The carrier is offering the latest Lumia 1020 (32GB) at a price tag of $299.99 on a two-year contract and for $659.99 outright. The handset is available in yellow, black and white color options. The Lumia 1020 is currently one of the most expensive smartphones on the carrier, but its 41-megapixel camera might make it worth it.
If you want to buy the recently-launched Samsung Galaxy S4 (32GB) on AT&T, for instance, you have to pay $249.99 on a two-year contract. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (16GB), meanwhile, has a price tag of $299.99 and the HTC One (64GB) has the same $299.99 price on a two-year contract.
Nokia has launched the Lumia 1020 with 32GB and 64GB internal storage configurations, but the AT&T pre-order page for the handset shows only the 32GB variant of the handset. The 64GB version of the Lumia 1020 may make its appearance soon on the carrier but will also have a higher price.
AT&T customers don't have a lot to choose from the carrier's WP8 smartphone portfolio, as the lineup only includes the HTC 8X, Lumia 920 and the Lumia 1020. However, AT&T is the only carrier in the U.S. that has two top-end WP8-powered handsets exclusively on offer - the Lumia 920 and now the Lumia 1020.
On the other hand, the Nokia Lumia 920 is priced at $99.99 on a two-year contract and $449.99 outright. The handset is also available in five colors: black, white, red, yellow and cyan.
Many smartphone customers, however, prefer to use their smartphones as a camera. Customers looking for a top-end camera in a smartphone may find the Lumia 1020 ideal, as it boasts a 41-megapixel rear-facing camera. For an enhanced picture-taking experience, Nokia has also launched a Camera Grip, available separately for $79.
The competition in the smartphone space has been rapidly growing in recent years and the Lumia 1020 will have to prove its woth, competing with heavyweight rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, iPhone 5 and more.
