You may probably remember that Apple said that it wouldn't switch to USB-C cables in 2021 due to it being "detrimental to the MFi business' profitability," and its waterproof specification is lower than the hardware Apple already uses, such as Lightning and MagSafe, per The Verge.
However, Apple's decision to stay true to its hardware only led people to buy two types of cables instead of one, which also increases electronic waste, per the European Commission.
That fact may soon change as Chinese electronic company ChargerLAB shared alleged images of Apple's unreleased 35W power adapter with dual USB-C ports on its official Twitter page.
Apple's USB-C Port Charger Details
According to a Macrumors report, the images ChargerLAB leaked suggest that it will have a compact design with two USB-C ports beside each other and foldable prongs similar to the company's current power adapter.
It has a wattage of 35 watts, which should let you and another person charge their iOS devices quicker at the same time, per 9to5Mac.
You may remember that Apple's current adapter only has a wattage of 20 watts, which could only charge an iOS device to 50 percent in around 30 minutes, per Apple, or 100 percent in 2 hours and 8 minutes, per Pitaka.
However, Macrumors said in a separate article that the power adapter would provide 35W of total charging power and not 35W for each USB-C port. If Macrumors' report turns out to be true at the adapter's release, then it could charge iOS devices at a much slower rate than expected.
The rumored power adapter could also support the following modes: 5VDC/3A, 9VDC/3A, 15VDC/2.3A, and 20VDC/1.75A.
It would also have a circular cutout on the sides so that you can hold the adapter there to remove the charger from a power outlet.
It isn't clear exactly when Apple will release its new USB-C power adapter, but analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in his tweet that it is "nearing mass production" and will be released at some point this year.
Apple's USB-C Power Adapter History
9to5Mac and Macrumors previously reported that Apple's 35W dual USB-C power adapter was leaked by Apple in a support document that was immediately removed after being published.
The document reads: "Use the Apple 35W Dual USB-C Port Power Adapter and a USB-C cable (not included) to charge your device. Connect a USB-C cable to either port on the power adapter, extend the electrical prongs (if necessary), then plug the power adapter firmly into the power outlet. Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible for disconnecting. Connect the other end of the cable to your device."
9to5Mac also mentioned that the 35W dual USB-C port power adapter could be Apple's first standalone gallium nitride (GaN) charger when it launches due to the company planning to expand its lineup of power adapters with GaN technology inside.
