Google is rumored to be launching its next-generation Nexus 7 tablet in the near future. It might be happening soon, since the device and its price have been listed in a retailer's inventory.
We reported back in June that Google is expected to launch its next-generation Nexus 7 at an event it will be holding in July. We haven't heard any news on if and when that event will be happening, but we might not have too long of a wait. The tablet has popped up in a retailer's inventory system and listed the price for both the 16GB and 32GB models.
The leaked screenshot shows that the 16GB Nexus 7 will retail for $229 and the 32GB will be sold for $269. The prices are a little higher than the $199 and $249 Google currently charges for the Nexus 7. The new prices do line up with what we reported in June, the next-generation Nexus 7 would be slightly more expensive coming in at $229 for the 16GB model.
The updated Nexus 7 will be built by ASUS, just as the current model is. The tablet will reportedly ship with an improved 7-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution display, it will be powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro processor with an Adreno GPU (graphics processing unit), be the first device to ship with Android 4.3, include 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and a 3.950 mAh battery. Google is also expected to offer Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE variants of the tablet.
The Nexus 7 was launched last July and has gone on to become one of the most popular Android tablets. The Nexus brand is very attractive to many consumers since it guarantees the device will see regular upgrades to the Android operating system whenever Google releases a new version.
Google is expected to announce an event sometime this month where it is believed the company will release Android 4.3 and announce the new Nexus 7. We'll have to wait for the company to actually schedule an event, but things are looking good for the updated Nexus 7 launching very soon.
