Next-generation Nexus 7 with new features and design pops up in video

Google's next-generation Nexus 7 will see its official debut at the company's July 24 event. The tablet has just appeared in a video giving us a first look at the new Nexus 7.

When Google launched the original Nexus 7 it quickly became one of the most popular tablets on the market. The company was able to create a device that had great specs, an affordable price tag, and its Nexus branding guaranteed it would always run the latest version of Android. Google had previously only offered Nexus smartphones in its mobile strategy, the Nexus 7 was the first sign that Google was serous about branching off and creating a family of mobile devices powered by its Android operating system.

It is believed that the Nexus 7 was created because Google wanted to make the tablet and Android dominate the small sized tablet category. It knew Apple owned the high-end tablet market with its iPad, and the company also knew Apple was going to release a smaller sized iPad to cover its bases in offering consumers a smaller and more affordable iPad.

The new Nexus 7 picks up where the original left off and adds some new features and design changes that should make the new tablet a worthy successor to the original. Android Central posted a video of the new tablet and as you'll see Google addressed some of the shortcomings of the original. The site notes that the images and video it has received may not be a final production model.

The tablet will be offered in both 16GB and 32GB models with Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE options. The tablet has an updated look and appears to have smaller bezels around its display. It features a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution display, is running Android 4.3, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, it includes a whopping 4GB of RAM, will finally bring a 5-megapixel rear camera and include a 1.2-megapixel front facing camera, includes dual-speakers that are listed as "upper" and "lower" and are situated on the back of the tablet, and it will also reportedly include a 3,950 mAh battery.

The new Nexus 7 is expected to officially be announced on July 24, will be priced at $229 for the 16GB and $269 for 32GB, and is expected to be available in retail stores and Google's Play Store immediately after its introduction.
