Apple Car has yet to launch. The Cupertino-based tech giant has yet to confirm such a project either.

However, there have been various rumors regarding the project for some time now.

There are various speculations, while others are reportedly insider knowledge from those close to the matter.

That said, even if the top brass of Apple kept mum about its rumored electric car project, fans of the iPhone maker, as well as other bystanders, now see it clearly that the tech giant is secretly working on an EV.

Apple carOS

This time around, as per a news story by Tech Radar, a new report about the rumored Apple Car disclosed tidbits about its operating system.

The news outlet cited a recent report from Taiwan-based site, DigiTimes, saying a custom OS is likely powering the EV project of Apple.

The latest prediction suggests that the Cupertino giant is working on an OS that would not only provide navigation functions and media features. Instead, the custom carOS is said to do all sorts of things in the EV, including starting the engine through its display.

On top of that, according to a recent report by NotebookCheck, the supply chain sources suggest that Apple is also planning to develop a Domain Control Unit (DCU) with the help of a Korea-based company.

The DCU should also house the self-driving sensor of the rumored Apple Car.

Apple vs. Tesla Dashboard

Meanwhile, Tech Radar further added that with that information out of the way, it is hard not to visualize the Apple carOS as something that looks akin to Tesla EVs.

It is worth noting that Tesla cars also sport its own software, which fills up the dashboards on its vehicles with screens.

In fact, the EV maker of billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk does not even provide its users with any physical buttons on its dashboard.

It comes as the functions of the vehicle are accessible through its several displays, which is possible thanks to Tesla's software platform.

All that said, it appears that Apple is also working to go the Tesla route in terms of its custom-made OS. Although the iPhone maker currently offers CarPlay software to various vehicles, it is limited to navigation and media playing capabilities.

On the other hand, the new rumored carOS is entirely different as it provides more functions that have something to do with the car itself, as well as the overall driving.

Essentially, the rumored custom OS is more than merely an entertainment device inside a vehicle.
