If you're interested in trying out The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) but are afraid of its price tag, fret no more!
Zenimax's online multiplayer game set in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls series will be free to play on all available platforms, including Google Stadia, per the game's promotional website for the event.
The game will be free to play until April 26. The event will also come with discounts for the base game and its expansions, according to PC Gamer.
ESO Free-To-Play Details
According to PC Gamer's article and the game's promotional website, the game would cover the High Isle prologue quest of the Legacy of the Bretons story.
This free trial will let you try out four different classes and gives you access to the Battlegrounds and Alliance War PvP. Areas (or zones) in the base game, Skyrim, Hammerfell, and Morrowind's island of Vvadernfell, which is added in the expansion, are also explorable during the trial period.
Players who liked what they experienced during the game's free-to-play period can purchase the base game at a 70% discount, which amounts to around $5.85.
Those who purchased the game during this period can carry over their progress to the fully unlocked version of the game. You can also buy the bundle for the game's various expansions, such as Morrowind, Summerset, Elsweyr, Greymoor, and Blackwood, for 67% off, which comes up at around $18.48.
The ESO sale will be available to all interested players until April 27, according to Games Radar.
ESO's High Isle Expansion Is Coming
Rock Paper Shotgun reported that Bethesda is willing to offer these discounts and trial periods because the trial period will soon be followed by ESO's upcoming expansion, High Isle, which is scheduled to be launched in early June.
The game's upcoming expansion will feature the Systres archipelago, a new location that's never been added to any previous Elder Scrolls game. The expansion will grant players the chance to know more about the culture of the Bretons, who have been sidelined through the game series.
The High Isle expansion will be available to ESO players on June 6.
Is ESO Worth Playing After Eight Years?
Although the game has had a shaky start on release due to its in-game bugs and lack of post level 50 content, according to IGN and Destructoid, the game is now playable, and its expansions are well worth the money you pay, per Tech News Today. Although it's not "the next World of Warcraft," ESO is a solid massively multiplayer online role-playing game that does justice to the selling angle of "Elder Scrolls online co-op."
The game will also be available on Steam instead of Bethesda's launcher due to the company being bought by Microsoft in late March 2021, according to CNBC.
The Elder Scrolls Online and its expansions are available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and Mac computers.
