Instagram's product tagging feature is now available to all users in the United States.
According to a recent report by Tech Crunch, the product tagging feature on Instagram was previously exclusively available for creators and brands on the social media platform.
Instagram Adds Product Tagging to All Users
But this time around, Instagram is also rolling out the feature to other users with public accounts.
According to a report by The Verge, Instagram initially released its product tagging feature way back in 2016. It comes as the photo-sharing platform was attempting to enter the world of e-commerce when it was still an emerging trend.
The social networking platform went on to announce that product tagging is also coming to other users aside from collaborating brands and creators back in March. During that time, Instagram said that the feature is coming in "the next few months."
But even before a couple of months have passed since the announcement, the Meta-owned social media already rolled out the feature.
Now, anyone who has an Instagram account, even if they are not a popular influencer on the platform, could start tagging products and brands on their posts.
That said, the feature no longer requires users to don a significant number of followers to tag a product, allowing your followers to click through it.
Instagram Product Tagging: How It Works
Now that the product tagging feature is out to all Instagram users, here's how to use it:
- After selecting and editing a photo or video on Instagram, select the Tag people option.
- Then, select Add tag.
- After which, choose the brand you want to tag.
- From there, select the Products option.
That's it. Your followers should start seeing the tagged brand and product on your post, which they could purchase upon clicking.
Instagram Product Tagging: Could You Earn Money From it?
It is worth noting that although the Instagram product tagging function is now rolling out to all of its users, it does not mean that anyone could earn from it.
According to a recent report by Gizmodo, Instagram influencers earn by promoting products on the social media platform through its affiliate program. The money comes once the followers of influences start buying the stuff tagged on their posts.
That said, merely tagging a product on your post will not automatically make you a social media millionaire.
Instead, those who do not belong to the influencer club could use it to promote products without getting paid for their sales.
However, brands could still opt to pay non-influencer users for posting their products, but that's no longer part of the new Instagram feature.
