Instagram is giving credit to whom credit is due.
Content creators will be delighted as the photo and video sharing social networking service, Instagram, decided to have changes in ranking its content, favoring original content.
Cnet reported that Instagram wanted to make sure that content creators are getting credit for the original photos and videos they share on the platform.
On Wednesday, Meta, the company that also owns Facebook, announced that it plans to upraise original posts by making changes to how it ranks content.
Presently, Instagram ranks content based on the users interaction, on the content users liked in the past, how popular a post is and whether users previously engaged with a particular user.
As per CNET's report, Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, said in a video "If you create something from scratch, you should get more credit than if you are resharing something you found from someone else."
Instagram is going to value original content more, particularly compared to reposted content.
Instagram Offers More Changes in the Platform
Instagram is also offering more changes in the platform.
In a tweet, Mosseri presented other changes in Instagram. The platform is now allowing "product tags."
Instagram has also released "enhanced tags" so other users can see specific contributions to a photo or video. This feature allows the user to identify the photographer or fashion stylist who worked on the creation of an image.
The move of Instagram illustrate the social network's effort to gratify creators in order for them not to migrate to competing platforms.
There have been issues about how creators on various social media platforms are not getting credit for their work.
Black creators boycotted creating new dances for short-form video app TikTok last year because they felt they weren't getting credit for choreography performed by popular white creators, as reported by Cnet.
During the invasion of Russia to Ukraine, the use of other people's content cause the spread of misinformation when old photos and videos misled others who thought they are new.
Mosseri admitted that it would be hard to identify the original creator of a photo or video.

Meta's Move Aims to Create to More Instagrammers
Meta, who owns both Facebook and Instagram said that it views Instagram as a creator-focused platform rather than a platform for people to connect with their friends.
This prompted the company to create more ways for creators to build audiences, and stop them from being Tiktokers and Youtubers and become Instagrammers instead.
The introduction of reels, as a new feature of Instagram, is central to this move. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called reals as "our fastest growing content format by far."
Meta's move for creators to produce more original content is nothing new. However, despite having the largest audiences, Meta's competitors, TikTok, Twitter, and others tend to be where new memes and trends are created.
Instagram needs to find a way to flip the scenario if they want to be a successful creator platform. They could start this by working on the ranking algorithm that decides what billions of people see every day.
