HBO and HBO Max subscribers continued to soar high in the first quarter of 2022, bringing an additional 3 million globally in the first three months of the year.
HBO Max competes with other behemoth streaming services out there including Netflix and Disney+. It houses the massive library of iconic entertainment titles by Warner Bros. Not to mention that it also inclused HBO hit series like Succession and Euphoria.
HBO, HBO Max Subscribers Increase
It is worth noting that both the traditional HBO and its streaming service arm, the HBO Max, have already garnered staggering 73.8 million subscribers before 2021 bids its final curtain call.
As such, according to a report by Hollywood Reporter, both HBO and HBO Max combined now draw roughly 76.8 million subscribers in total across the globe.
The giant telecom firm AT&T revealed the increasing figures of HBO subscribers during its first-quarter earnings call with its investors.
On top of that, AT&T also disclosed the domestic figures of HBO and HBO Max in the United States during the meeting with investors.
Both HBO platforms now boasted 48.6 million domestic subscribers combined. It gained about 4.4 million from its 44.2 million performance in the same period in 2021.
The gains of both HBO and HBO Max are contrary to the fate of Netflix these days, wherein the streaming giant has been losing its subscribers in the past months.
HBO Max Subscribers Still Trails Behind Netflix, Disney+
Although the subscriber count of both HBO and HBO Max still increases, it is still behind the numbers of its rivals, namely Disney+ and Netflix, according to a recent report by The Verge.
Despite the decrease in the numbers of Netflix subscribers, it still holds about 221.64 million viewers, which is still far away from the 76.8 million global figures of HBO and HBO Max.
On the other hand, the streaming arm of Disney recently said that it has roughly about 129.8 million subscribers.
Clearly, even if HBO and HBO Max are performing positively in terms of subscriber gains, it still lags behind Disney+ and Netflix.
In addition to that, it still puts Netflix on top of the streaming market even as it faces an unfortunate downtrend lately.
