Lexus recalled its NX SUVs after discovering missing welds on its chassis, which could dangerously separate its shock absorber from the body of the vehicle.
Lexus Recalls NX Due to Missing Welds
The luxury auto brand of the Japanese carmaker Toyota had to recall more than 4,000 NX models due to a serious issue with its structure, as per a news story by CNET.
The giant luxury automaker recently announced that it is recalling its 2022 NX SUVs. It comes as less than 1 percent of the recalled models currently lack spot-welds, which in turn could lead to the removal of the front shock mounts of the luxury crossover.
In addition to the recall of thousands of 2022 NX units, Lexus also asked its dealers to halt the sale of the luxury SUV until the issue has been completely fixed.
Meanwhile, according to a recent report by AutoBlog, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed that Lexus appears to have missed a few spot-welds during the production process of the 2022 NX.
The NHTSA further explained that the missing weld on the Lexus SUV sits near its shock absorbers. Although it does not directly glue the shocks to the body of the vehicle, it could still affect other panels of the crossover.
Once the panels around the missing weld start to weaken, it could lead to what Lexus must be trying to avoid from happening - the separation of the shock absorbers from where it is mounted to the chassis.
AutoBlog went on to warn that such a situation could cause the vehicle to completely lose control, which likely raises the risk of figuring in a crash.
Lexus NX Models Recalled
The Japanese luxury carmaker announced that it is recalling the NX450h+, NX350h, NX350, and the NX250, which in total is more than 4200 units of the 2022 Lexus NX.
CNET added in the same report that the automaker plans to notify all of the affected Lexus NX owners by June 6.
Upon notifying the owners of the affected luxury SUVs, they will be asked to bring their vehicles to the closest dealership in their area to have the missing welds fixed right away.
In the meantime, Lexus is reportedly working on how to fix the missing welds on the affected vehicles.
The news outlet further noted that in some structural cases, carmakers sometimes replace their vehicles altogether to get rid of the critical issue.
