Tom Henderson of Exputer said that the development of a new game by Ubisoft Bordeaux, a French studio, has been confirmed by eight sources.
As reported by Dot Esports, Hyper Scape, Ubisoft's previous foray into the battle royale genre, failed to get the traction the studio had hoped for. Still, the firm hasn't given up on the genre, and Project Q appears to be an attempt to put a new spin on the firm's battle royale formula.
What is 'Project Q'?
Dot Esport shared the things that they knew about Project Q so far, which has been compiled below:
Project Q is best defined as a PvP hero shooter so far. Because Project Q is still in its early stages of development, most of what is known about it and what is known about it is susceptible to change.
It is yet unknown whether Project Q will be a free-to-play game or a paid title. Project Q is rumored to be a free-to-play PvP game that has yet to be announced on Ubisoft's website.
Project Q is said to include two game modes at the moment: Showdown and Battle Zone.
There no release date has been set as Ubisoft has yet to make an official announcement about Project Q.
On top of that, Henderson shared some details between Project Q's two game modes:
Showdown - the game's version of a Battle Royale which features only four two-player teams
Battle Zone - the game's Battle Arena mode. With two teams of four players, players must reach 100 points to win in the game's Battle Arena mode. Battle Zone's goal is to keep possession of a certain section of the map for as long as possible, akin to Call of Duty's Hardpoint game mode.
A Project Q Gameplay Has Allegedly Leaked
According to Henderson, Project Q was first discovered by Eurogamer in Sept. 2021 in the leaked NVIDIA GeForce Now database, but was later withdrawn after Ubisoft filed a DMCA takedown.
Based on the footage sent to him, Project Q's art style is akin to EA's Knockout City or Activision's Overwatch. You can watch the "leaked" gameplay here.
Dual Shockers also mentioned that referring to the footage, Project Q seems to be a third-person action game in the vein of Knockout City, with a focus on ranged and melee weaponry. While the game has a variety of heroes, players can choose weapons independent of their chosen character. The game's world, according to Dual Shockers, appears to be bright and vibrant, similar to Knockout City, yet the game's visual style and visuals may remind you of Fortnite.
Hendersons, on the other hand, said that according to first impressions from those who have played the game, Project Q is definitely still in its early phases of development, and it has been likened to games like Overwatch.
There would be more information on Project Q in the coming days as playtesting continues.
