Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. animated movie adaptation's release date should have been on December 21 or before 2022 comes to an end. But the film starring Chris Pratt is now delayed to 2023.
Nintendo's Super Mario Bros. Movie Intended Release
The untitled animated film adaptation of the revered Super Mario Bros. game was first teased during the Nintendo Direct event last Feb. 9. Nintendo also confirmed during the said event that the release date of the animated movie is on Dec. 21.
However, as per a news story by The Verge, the upcoming animated film will no longer hit the theaters this year.
Super Mario Bros. Release Delayed
The creator of Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto, himself took over the official Twitter account of Nintendo of America to announce the delay of its release date.
The Mario creator said that he consulted with the co-producer of the Super Mario Bros. movie, Chris Meledandri, before delaying the animated film.
Chris Meledandri, who Miyamoto refers to as Chris-san, is the CEO of the animated movie firm Illumination, which is notably famous for its massive Minions franchise.
The announcement straight from Miyamoto revealed that the global release of the Super Mario Bros. film has officially been pushed to Spring 2023 instead of December 2022.
To be precise, the release of the animated movie in North America has been moved to April 7. Following that, it will be hitting the theaters in Japan on April 28.
The Mario creator went on to issue an apology to its fans of the Super Mario Bros franchise. On top of that, Miyamoto promised that the wait would be worth it.

Super Mario Bros. Film Starring Chris Pratt
The Verge noted in the same report that Pratt will still be starring in the animated film as Mario depsite its delay.
According to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, it also includes massive voice actors and actresses, such as Anya Taylor-Joy, who will star as Princess Peach, and Charlie Day as Luigi.
On top of that, Keegan-Michael Key portrays Toad, whereas Jack Black stars Bowser.
Both Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) and Cranky Kong (Fred Armisen) will also be part of the animated film.
The Super Mario Bros. film adaptation is the love child of the Japanese gaming firm Nintendo and the American animation studio Illumination.
As such, the CEO and founder of the latter, Chris Meledandri, and the iconic Mario creator, Miyamoto, are co-producing the upcoming animated film.
It also includes the giant firm Universal, which serves as its distributor in North America.
