Fortnite is back on iPhone's iOS via Xbox Cloud Gaming. It comes years after Apple removed the Epic Games battle royale from its App Store, which ended up being a massive legal battle between the two firms.
Fortnite Back on iOS
Although all games on the Xbox Cloud Gaming platform come with a price tag to play, Epic Games' Fortnite is coming out as the first free-to-play title in the service.
As per a news story by For The Win by USA Today, the tech giant behind Xbox, Microsoft, announced its partnership with the game publisher of Fortnite, Epic Games.
The lovechild of the recent collaboration of Microsoft and Epic Games brings that hit battle royale title to the world of cloud gaming.
Fortnite and Xbox Cloud Gaming
The arrival of Fortnite to Xbox Cloud Gaming also marks the much-awaited comeback of the Epic Games battle royale to various Apple devices, including the iPad and iPhone, which both run on iOS.
It is worth noting that the hit battle royale craze has yet to officially return to the Apple App Store after the iPhone maker abruptly delisted it way back in August 2020.
Instead, the comeback of Fortnite on iPhones and iPads is now exclusively on the web browser of these devices, thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Essentially, USA Today said in the same report that the partnership of Epic Games and Microsoft successfully circumvented the move of Apple to kick out Fortnite from its App Store.
The news outlet further noted that Fortnite players on iOS devices should keep in mind that playing games via Xbox Cloud Gaming requires an excellent internet connection.
So, if Fortnite used to work on your iPhone or iPad, even with an internet connection that wasn't so fast, this time around is a different story.
Meanwhile, according to a recent report by The Verge, the first free-to-play title of Xbox Cloud Gaming is not only available on iOS devices. The web version of Fortnite is also coming to Android devices.
The CEO and founder of Epic Games, Tim Sweeney, said in a tweet on his official account that the comeback of Fortnite on iOS is "monumental news."
The Epic Games boss further said that the battle royale phenomenon is now available to "play for free streaming to web browsers on iPhone, iPad, and Android via Xbox Cloud.
Sweeney also noted that it does not require any subscription fees or the 30% "Apple tax."
How To Play Fortnite via Xbox Cloud Gaming
Unlike downloading a game straight from the App Store, there are some requirements needed to play it on Xbox Cloud Gaming.
First, it requires users to have both an iPhone or iPad and a Microsoft account. But there is no need for an Xbox Cloud Gaming subscription as it is free-to-play.
