Residents of four states in the U.S. may be eligible for forthcoming stimulus payments, which are expected to start in May as the country struggles with high inflation.
California, Delaware, and Indiana are slated to make payments this month, while Chicago will provide prepaid gas and transit cards.
Colorado
Tax filers in Colorado can expect to get a payment of $400 or $800 depending on their filing status, with the former being for individual taxpayers and the latter being for joint filers.
Marca explained that the money is being handed back to Colorado residents as part of the TABOR (Taxpayer Bill of Rights) reimbursements. These payments are expected to benefit 5.8 million Coloradans.
California
According to Newsweek, eligible California residents are due to receive payouts under two stimulus packages passed last year: Golden State Stimulus I (GSS I) and Golden State Stimulus II (GSS II).
California residents earning less than $75,000 per year and filing their taxes by Oct. 15 last year will be eligible. Residents of the state will get either a $600 or $1,200 check in the first stimulus package and a check for up to $1,100 in the second. Depending on whether they qualified for GSS I and other circumstances, some people may receive fewer payouts under GSS II.
In June, the state's Franchise Tax Board (FTB) is likely to issue another round of checks.
According to the FTB website, residents should see if they qualify for any or both of the stimulus payments.
Indiana
Residents who filed taxes in the state before Jan. 3 will receive refunds.
Individuals who did so will receive a $125 payout, while married couples would earn double that amount, Marca reported.
Paper checks will not be mailed out until July or August, but those who gave bank account information with their 2021 tax filings will receive direct payments.
The $3.9 billion surplus amount is expected to help 4.3 million people in Indiana, with payments beginning in May and continuing throughout the summer.
Illinois
Newsweek reported that while the state of Illinois is set to issue payments of up to $400 to qualified taxpayers later this year, the city of Chicago will provide people with prepaid gas and transportation cards.
Up to 50,000 $150 prepaid gas cards and 100,000 $50 prepaid transportation cards will be provided by the city.
The cards will be distributed via lottery starting in the second week of May and running until September.
Delaware
A tax rebate, as per Marca, will be issued by the state towards the end of May. Individual taxpayers will receive $300, while joint filers can expect a $600 refund.
According to the government, this relief is meant to assist Delawareans who are experiencing higher groceries and gas prices.
Residents who filed a personal income tax return in 2020 as well as those who did not earn enough to file taxes that year will be eligible for rebates.
