AT&T has now begun selling the latest Windows Phone 8-powered Nokia smartphone, the Lumia 1020.
The smartphone was announced earlier this month and it went up for pre-order on July 16. Now the Nokia Lumia 1020, which touts a whopping 41-megapixel PureView camera, can be ordered online from AT&T for $299.99 on a two-year contract.
"If taking photos of your friends, kids, family, or travels is something you care about even a little bit - and who doesn't? - you'll want to run to the nearest AT&T store and pick up the new Nokia Lumia 1020 with Windows Phone 8, which officially goes on sale today (July 26)," notes the Windows Phone blog.
The top-end Nokia Lumia 1020 is the most expensive WP8 handset currently available in the US. What's more, along with the iPhone 5 32GB version, the Lumia 1020 is the second-most expensive smartphone in AT&T's portfolio of devices. The 64GB model of the iPhone 5 is the most expensive handset offered by the carrier and costs $399.99 on a two-year contract.
Nokia launched both the 32GB and 64GB internal storage options for the Lumia 1020, but AT&T is currently offering only the 32GB version. It remains unknown for now when the 64GB variant of the handset will become available. When it will, however, it would likely sport a higher pricing, similar to that of the iPhone 5.
That Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a 4.5-inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display with 1,280 x 768 pixels resolution at a pixel density of 332 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, it houses a 1.5-GHz, dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, Adreno 225 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of on-board storage with no option to expand via a microSD card. It further packs a 2000mAh battery and has a 41-megapixel primary camera with LED and Xenon flash, as well as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The Lumia 1020 also features a 1.2-megapixel secondary camera.
The 32GB variant of the Lumia 1020 is available in three color options: Matte Yellow, Matte Black and Matte White, for $299.99 on a two-year contract with AT&T. Purchasing the WP8-powered Nokia smartphone outright, be prepared to shell out $659.99.
Recently, we reported that an image of the Lumia 1020 leaked in a red avatar and we could see a new option soon.
