Qualcomm seems to be introducing Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus, the refresher to Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that was released about six months ago, in the upcoming launch event on May 20.
In a teaser posted by the company on Weibo, a social network in China, Qualcomm confirms previous reports that it set to update its Snapdragon processor line up on the launch event, as per 9to5Google report.
The launch event that would likely be live-streamed is teased to deliver "new products."
What Should We Expect From the Launch Event?
At the launch event, Qualcomm is expected to introduce the update for its flagship processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
A new "Plus" version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus will be manufactured by TSMC instead of Samsung. As we've seen on past "Plus" upgrades, we can expect the upgraded chip to bring enhanced GPU capabilities.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is expected to power Samsung's upcoming batch of foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4, as well as this year's OSOM OV1, the privacy-focused phone from the folks behind Essential, according to 9to5Google.
It is expected that more mobile companies will announce which devices the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus should power once the chip is official.
There is very little is known about the upcoming chip, but it will likely arrive with small performance improvements over its predecessor, similar to Qualcomm's "Plus" variants in the past, said Android Central.
This week's event would also likely reveal the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. It's the first mid-range chip to get Qualcomm's rebranding. The chip is expected in an upcoming launch from Oppo, as per 9to5Google report.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus Launch Was Initially Postponed
According to Android Central, previous rumors indicated that we could see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chip in early May when the Qualcomm 5G Summit took place.
However, the event came and went with no such announcement. Qualcomm only focused on 5G and the latest capabilities of its Snapdragon X70 modem.
A tipster from China said that we are more likely to see the platform arrive in the second half of the year, as per GSMArena report. Moreover, according to Digital Chat Station, who is usually on point with such rumors, the reason for the delay is the current epidemic situation in China.
According to GSMArena, atate agency Xinhua quoted political leaders in the China that the relaxation of measures will "undoubtedly lead to a massive number of infections." This is expected to have a serious impact the economy and social development of people's lives and health.
GSMArena cited Digital Chat Station, saying that the good relationship of Lenovo and Qualcomm suggests that the first phone with the new chip might be the Motorola Edge 30 Ultra.
It is expected that the GPU of the new chip will receive a boost while the CPU will remain the same as the current flagship - one mighty Cortex-X2 at (almost) 3 GHz, three more Cortex-A710 performance units and four Cortex-A510 cores for efficiency, as per GSMArena report.
