Google just launched the new Nexus 7 tablet and now the rumor mill claims that a new Samsung-made Nexus 10 tablet is also gearing up to make its debut soon.
Google unveiled the refreshed ASUS-made Nexus 7 tablet on July 24 at its media event in San Francisco, along with the much-awaited Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, but there is more to come.
According to the Wall Street Journal's Amir Efrati, Google's Android chief Sundar Pichai had told the publication that consumers can expect a new 10-inch Samsung-built Nexus 10 tablet in the near term.
"Expect to see new 10-inch Nexus 10 Android tablet (made by @Samsung) in the near future, Google's @sundarpichai tells me," tweeted Efrati.
Efrati did not divulge any details regarding the alleged next-gen Nexus 10 tablet, but judging by Google's previous product cycle schedule, consumers can expect to get their hands on the tablet in time for the holiday season.
In 2012, Google launched the Nexus 7 in July, followed by the Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 in fall. It is likely that the company seeks to follow the same pattern this year. Moreover, the first-gen Nexus 7 debuted with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this year the refreshed tablet brought along the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
The Nexus 10 and Nexus 4 came pre-loaded with the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at the time and speculations suggest that these devices could get the next upcoming OS - in all probability Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie (which the company teased at the Google I/O in May).
Consequently, a new Samsung-made Nexus 10 will likely come with the Android 5.0 Key Lime out of the box, as Google's Nexus line-up of devices usually boast the latest version of Android as soon as the company releases it.
Google's Nexus portfolio of devices may be made by other companies but enjoy immense popularity. LG makes the Nexus 4 smartphone for Google, which sold out within hours of its release from the Google Play Store in the UK and the U.S. back in Nov. 2012. The first-gen ASUS-made Nexus 7 tablet also enjoyed a good response, prompting Google to release an improved successor. Google is also expected to release the next iteration of the Nexus 10 tablet, as well as a new Nexus smartphone.
Google is yet to officially confirm the existence of a new Nexus 4 smartphone or Nexus 10 tablet, but more details should become available shortly.
