Apple's AR/VR headset reportedly got previewed by its board of directors to check out the progress of its reality operating system (rOS).
It comes as the engineers of the tech giant have been doing all the hard work to make the rumored mixed reality device of the iPhone maker possible.
This latest development on the upcoming augmented reality and virtual reality device (AR/VR) headset has left some Apple fans thinking about whether it is seeing the light of day anytime soon.
Apple's AR/VR Headset: Board of Directors Test
As per a news story by Bloomberg, the top brass of Apple took the chance to showcase its secretive mixed-reality headset to its board of directors during its recent quarterly meeting.
The unnamed sources of the news outlet say that a recent test by the board of Apple most likely indicates that the development of its AR/VR headset has reached a monumental milestone.
Bloomberg also reported that the board of directors of the Cupertino-based tech giant includes its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tim Cook, along with eight other independent directors.
The board traditionally meets at least four times a year. So, it appears that the execs of the iPhone maker took the chance to preview one of its upcoming products.
If the AR/VR headset hits the shelves anytime soon, it would be the first new product lineup that the Cook-led firm debuts for the past couple of years.
According to a recent report by Protocol, the last time that the Cupertino firm launched a new product category was when it first introduced the Apple Watch way back in 2015. That said, the upcoming headset is set to make history, at least for its firm.

On top of that, The Verge also speculates that the software preview could potentially suggest that the rOS is already near its completion.
Apple AR/VR Headset: Launching Soon?
It is worth noting that the board members of the tech giant reportedly first got their hands on the prototype of the headset as early as 2016.
Despite that, a couple of years have passed already, and Apple has yet to launch its AR/VR device.
But what sets the latest preview apart is that reports are now saying that its release could be sometime in 2023. Not to mention that sources claim that development is making significant progress.
