Mark Zuckerburg's metaverse does not spark joy for Amazon executive David Limp.

Meta's founder and CEO disrupted the tech industry last year with his announcement of rebranding Facebook to Meta, the whole tech conglomerate under the umbrella of the metaverse.

When hearing the word "metaverse," numerous people have wondered what that truly means and what it means for the field of technology. During an event hosted by The Wall Street Journal, Limp talked about the same confusion as well.

Amazon's David Limp on Metaverse

David Limp, who is the head of devices at Amazon, has stated that he does not wish to live in a virtual world 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or even for a prolonged period of time each day.

Limp was asked about his thoughts on the metaverse while he was giving a presentation at the Future of Everything Festival hosted by The Wall Street Journal. The Amazon executive believes that there will somehow be a place-shift in the industry in the near future.

However, despite seeing the potential change, Limp said that he is more interested in developing technologies that enhance what currently exists in the here and now.

According to The Verge, the Amazon executive stated, "I want to try to work on technologies that bring people's heads up, get them to enjoy the real world around them, and make the family a more communal experience."

In addition to this, he mentioned that the concept of the metaverse was difficult to define. He reasoned that when you ask numerous people on Metaverse, you will also get numerous definitions of what it is.

There is not a common definition of the term, so it can mean a variety of things to a wide range of individuals.

Snapchat's CEO Evan Spiegel on Metaverse

Amazon's executives are not the only ones who believe the same thing about Mark Zuckerburg's Metaverse concept. In a recent report here on iTech Post, Snapchat's CEO, Evan Spiegel, also stated the same thing.

Evan Spiegel stated, "The reason why we don't use that word is because it's pretty ambiguous and hypothetical." Just ask a room full of people how to define it, and everyone's definition is totally different. "

However, Spiegel and Zuckerburg are both working towards developing the same device that can be used in augmented reality through their respective AR Glasses.

Spiegel is of the opinion that people would rather spend their time in a real world that has had virtual elements added to it than in a fully virtual one.

Spiegel has stated that the primary goal of his company, Snap, is to create an immersive augmented reality that blends with the real world rather than a fully immersive digital universe. This can be familiar as this is precisely what Mark Zuckerberg and his team are working on with their metaverse.

Mark Zuckerburg's Metaverse

According to Facebook, their vision for Meta is to become the next step forward in social connection and the evolution that will succeed the mobile internet.

The metaverse will represent and mean the emerging technologies and services that are based on the internet and are geared toward enhancing human experiences through the use of augmented and virtual reality.

Like the internet, the metaverse will let people connect even when they are not in the same place. This will bring us one step closer to recreating what it's like to be together in real life.

The term metaverse comes from the science fiction novel called Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, which was published in 1992. The term was brought to the spotlight again after so many years as Zuckerburg's group of companies rebranded itself to Meta.
