VP80ES: Friendly to Consumers but an Enemy to Hackers

VP80ES has some consumer-friendly features. It unlocks like a smartphone with its intuitive touchscreen and then enables simple drag-and-drop file transfers.

It is an enemy for hackers as Tom's Hardware rightfully pointed out. Hackers would face a FIPS 197 certified OS-independent device that safeguards against Brute Force attacks and BadUSB with digitally-signed firmware and XTS-AES 256-bit encryption.

There are no problems transferring large amounts of data as the VP80ES has read and write speeds of up to 250MB/s.

According to Kingston, the military-grade security used in the VP80ES makes it a far safer choice than relying on the internet or the Cloud for keeping important company information, documents, and videos, as per Forbes report.

It has a multi-password option that can be programmed separately for both the admin and the end-user. Users can use either a PIN or a passphrase with configurable password rules.

If you use the drives admin option, you can choose between using a numeric PIN or a memorable passphrase.

According to Forbes, there are configurable password rules and extended security options like a maximum number of shared password attempts, minimum password length of 6-64 characters, alphanumeric password rules, auto-timeout to lock drive, randomized touchscreen layout, and secure erasure for maximum protection of essential files.

Meanwhile, if you need to restore or access the data should you forget your password, the Admin-level password can be used.

There is no need to worry if someone takes possession of your drive. Your data cannot be accessed as the VP80ES' Brute Force attack protection can crypto-erase the drive if either the Admin or User passwords are entered incorrectly 15 times in a row.

VP80ES Include Space Character in Making the Password

For the password to be easier to remember, the VP80ES allows the password to include 'space' characters. With this, you can use a list of words, a memorable quote, or even the lyrics from a favorite song as a password.

Instead of a password, a PIN pad can also be used to unlock VP80ES, just like a regular smartphone. The user can also tap on the "eye" button to view the characters of the password as they are being entered to reduce the number of failed login attempts and frustration.

The Kingston IronKey VP80ES is ideal to be an on the move gadget. It is supplied with a neoprene travel case and two USB 3.2 Gen 1 adapter cables for connection to USB-C or USB-A devices.

As cited by Forbes, Oscar Escayola Kaloudis, Kingston's flash business manager for European and Middle East markets, said: "As more and more people continue to work from home and outside of company firewalls, we want to provide higher capacity options of user-friendly military-grade security for small and medium businesses to complement our existing encrypted USB drives. IronKey Vault Privacy 80ES does just that. Between the color touchscreen, the myriad security features, and its small form factor, users can truly control their data in their own hands."
