Harley-Davidson's Electric Mountain Bikes: Does It Really Have No Front or Rear Suspension?

Harley-Davidson's Serial 1 brand unveiled another premium model on Tuesday designed to mesmerize bike enthusiasts. The Bash/Mtn is the company's first electric mountain bike that features a fully rigid aluminum frame and fork, without front or rear suspension.

The ebike also doesn't come with a dropper post and the only shock absorption it has is its SR Suntour NCX seat post, which offers up to 50mm of travel, as per Engadget.

According to Harley-Davidson, the missing features are in fact the reason to buy the Bash/Mtn.

"No fussy suspension to tune, no finicky drivetrain to adjust - just two wheels, one gear, and one purpose, to provide the most direct connection between you and the trail," the company said.

Bash/Mtn is Unorthodox but Decent as an Ebike

The Bash/Mtn may have an unorthodox design but it looks like a decent e-bike. Depending on the terrain and drive mode you use, the removable 529Wh battery will provide between 30 and 95 miles of range.

For just five hours, you can charge the battery to full, but you can get it up to 75 percent after about two-and-a-half hours.

As a Class 1 e-bike, once you've reached a speed of 20 miles per hour, the Bash/Mtn will stop providing you with assistance.

Completing the package are TRP hydraulic disc brakes and 27.5-inch tubeless-ready tires from Michelin, as per Engadget report.

Although Serial 1 didn't provide the power rating, with 90 Newton-meters and 66 foot-pounds of torque, the Bash/Mtn is sure to get you up a steep slope without much effort, as per The Verge.

Thanks to its simplified design, the new ebike promises to require less maintenance. It is also designed for serious off-roading. But it doesn't come cheap, with a suggested retail price of $3,999.

Bash/Mtn is Adapted From Harley-Davidson's Serial 1 Mosh/Cty Model

According to The Verge, the Bash/Mtn design was based on a Serial 1 engineer's personal build and adapted on the company's entry-level Mosh/Cty model.

Many of the Mosh/Cty features were present in this premium model, which include a Gates Carbon Drive belt, Brose S Mag mid-drive motor, TRP hydraulic disc brakes, internally routed cables and wires, and integrated LED lighting.

With the inclusion of grippy Michelin E-Wild knobby tires and a "spine-saving, shock-absorbing" SR Suntour NCX suspension seat post, the Bash/Mtn differs from the Mosh/Cty.

Another difference of the new ebike from Serial 1's other models is the Yucca Tan paint with special Gloss Graffiti graphics. The Serial 1 app will relay all the ride data and other metrics for users to use, all thanks to Google.

According to Harley-Davidson, they plan to produce only 1,050 units of the Bash/Mtn, with 525 units to be sold in the US.

According to The Verge, last year, Harley-Davidson's Serial 1 announced a series of exclusive, one-of-a-kind e-bikes that it was auctioning off under its 1-OFF series brand name. The Schwinn Sting-Ray-inspired Mosh/Chopper is the first offering.

The company also talked about how customization and personalization would play a significant role in how Serial 1 conceptualize the types of e-bikes it designs.
