Verizon HTC One release date gets pushed back to August 15

Verizon customers will have to wait a little longer for the HTC One, as the carrier has pushed back the expected release date to August 15.

When HTC unveiled its new flagship, it announced that the HTC One would be available from AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile. Verizon, meanwhile, decided not to offer the handset at the time. As the HTC One proved to be in high demand, Verizon customers started pressuring the carrier to offer the smartphone. Verizon eventually gave in and announced that it would offer the HTC One sometime in the summer. It gave no expected release date or price, but a leaked roadmap of upcoming devices showed the carrier planned to release the smartphone on August 1. A new report now claims that the smartphone will actually reach Verizon on Aug. 15.

Verizon never confirmed that the HTC One would launch on August 1 and it didn't seem likely either, especially when Motorola announced that it would hold its Moto X press event on the same day. Droid Life has received a tip in the form of a Verizon internal memo, which states that the HTC One launch date has been delayed. It does not give any indication of why the launch date has been pushed back, but the delay brings up the question of how in demand will the HTC One be when it's already almost six months old and will be going on sale next to the Moto X and iPhone 5S?

Verizon is expected to offer the 32GB HTC One, since AT&T still has the exclusive on the 64GB model. The HTC One features an anodized aluminum unibody enclosure, a 4.7-inch SuperLCD 3 Full HD (1080p) display that is also scratch-resistant, it is powered by a 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, ships with Android 4.1.2 and HTC Sense 5.0 with BlinkFeed, has 2GB of RAM, an HTC UltraPixel rear camera with HTC Zoe support and dedicated HTC ImageChip, 88 wide-angle lens with HDR capability front camera, 1080p video recording on both its front and rear cameras, dual front stereo speakers with HTC BoomSound and built-in amplifiers with Beats Audio, a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, an infrared universal remote control with program guide and a 2,300mAh battery.

It'll be interesting to see if Verizon customers are still as enthusiastic to get their hands on the HTC One this late in the game or pass it by completely for a newer smartphone.
