Sony expects its PC games earnings for this fiscal year, which began last April 1, to book impressive numbers as high as $300 million.
The renowned Japanese electronics and gaming firm also revealed that it is releasing most of its games on two platforms. Sony expects future titles to focus on PCs and the emerging world of mobile devices, at least for the next few years.
Sony's PC Games Earning Expectations
As per a news story by IGN, Sony disclosed to its investors that it expects record-breaking earnings from the PC games in its current fiscal year, which ends on March 30, 2023.
To be more precise, the gaming giant behind offerings like God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn is looking forward to an epic $300 million net sales just for its PC titles.
It is worth noting that it does not include the other gaming offerings of Sony, such as the in-demand PlayStation 5 and its console games.
So, the Japan-based gaming giant appears to expect more than $300 million in earnings from its lucrative gaming endeavors.
IGN notes in its report that Sony revealed how much its PC games brought to the table for the previous fiscal year, which had its final curtain call last March 31.
The PlayStation maker boasted that it pocketed a whopping $80 million from the previous fiscal year.
It is far lower than what the firm expects moving forward. However, the latest figures flaunt a massive growth from its 2020 performance of $35 million.
The multi-million earnings of Sony were thanks to its sought-after gaming titles, namely God of War, Days Gone and Horizon: Zero Dawn. Sony offers that the latter exponentially helped the dramatic revenue growth after earning $60 million.
Sony PC Games Plans
Sony has yet to reveal how it plans to produce such massive growth for this year. But IGN highlights that the gaming giant has previously announced its upcoming PC title, the Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
Apart from the confirmed new PC game, the Japan-based giant also expects its purchase of the esteemed game developer, Bungie, to conclude this year.
Sony: More PC and Mobile Games Please
Meanwhile, the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, no less than Jim Ryan himself, revealed they plan to bring more exciting games to PC and mobile platforms
According to VGC's report, the Sony exec says that the expansion plan should transform their position from "a very narrow segment of the overall gaming software market, to being present pretty much everywhere."
Ryan bares that the firm plans to release half of its games on PC and mobile come 2025. While also suggesting that PS4 titles are retiring during the said year.
