However, the renowned maker of PlayStation, Sony, admitted that the upgrade tax was a mistake all along.

PlayStation Plus Pricing Error?

The new PlayStation Plus service has already started rolling out to numerous players in various parts of the world, as per a news story by Kotaku.

The launch of the revamped subscription program unraveled a few issues from wonky frame rates and now — pricing errors.

Some PlayStation players were baffled when they attempted to upgrade to the new existing service of Sony.

According to the latest story by The Verge, users upgrading with a discount were asked to pay back what was supposed to amount that they could have saved in the first place. On top of that, it also asked players to pay an additional upgrade fee.

Ergo, PlayStation Plus players got weirded out by this. First, Sony took back the discount, which is already strange by itself. Then, they still need to pay an additional upgrade price.

There were other instances where players were required to upgrade for the same duration as their older PS Plus plan, preventing them from getting the revamped version for only a month or a year.

It comes as some users of the older service previously grabbed years worth of subscriptions when they got it for dramatically cheap prices.

Thus, the error required some players to subscribe to the new service for 10 years, asking for hefty fees.

The whole pricing issue frustrated numerous users. A number of them ended up storming social media platforms, which The Verge dubs as the court of public opinion, to air out their disappointment.

Sony Says Upgrade Tax a Mistake

After several users panicked with the surprising pricing details of the new PlayStation Plus, Sony officially addressed it on Twitter.

The Japanese tech giant blamed the pricing mess, which some users thought was official, on a technical error.

The official Twitter of Ask PlayStation said that PS Plus "membership at a discount have been incorrectly charged for their upgrade pricing."

Sony goes on to assure its players that it has gotten rid of the upgrade issues, saying, "this error has been fixed."

However, the explanation and fix would not be enough for players who have already paid for the upgrade tax.

Sony further added that all affected subscribers are getting a refund or a credit from the tech giant.
