Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 artwork made an appearance on Steam several years after the Activision shoot game was exclusively available on its own launcher, Battle.net.
The brief appearance of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has its fans wondering if it hints at the much-awaited comeback of Modern Warfare on the online storefront of Valve.
Call of Duty and Steam
As per a news story by Video Games Chronicle, the last time that Steam users saw the Call of Duty Modern Warfare series on the gaming platform was way back in 2015 -- roughly seven years have passed already.
Meanwhile, the gaming news site also notes that Steam had its last Call of Duty title in 2017, the Call of Duty: WWII. In the following years, Activision made the massive franchise on PC exclusively playable on its Battle.Net launcher.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on Steam?
The Call of Duty Modern Warfare series is now a few months away from the release of its sequel. Its publisher, Activision, recently confirmed its release date on October 28, 2022.
However, it is worth noting that Activision has yet to officially confirm if its upcoming Call of Duty game is making its much-awaited return to Steam.
But this time, an artwork of Modern Warfare 2 surprised fans of the shooter game in its brief appearance on a Call of Duty Steam page, according to a recent report by Games Radar.
Although the artwork only showed up briefly, a Reddit user had already archived the Call of Duty teaser on Steam even before it was abruptly taken down.
The Redditor that goes by the username Kalinine gave us a look at the artwork, showcasing the Ghostly face from the shooter franchise.
The thread aptly carries the title "MWII artwork shows up on Steam." Kalinine says it appeared on the bottom part of Call of Duty pages, specifically DLCs of titles like Black Ops III.
The Reddit user edited her post, which gives us an update that the Call of Duty artwork has been replaced with a mere blank page.
The latest sighting highly suggests that the seven-year-long absence of Warfare on Steam is likely about to end.
However, fans of the shooter game should still take this with a grain of salt as both Activision and Steam have yet to formally announce the long-awaited comeback of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on the Valve storefront.
