Moto X: Motorola officially unveils specs, customization details, price and more

Motorola held its Moto X event in New York City where it unveiled the Moto X. All four major carriers will offer the smartphone, with AT&T having the exclusive on customizations.

The Moto X has been one of the most anticipated smartphones to be announced this year. A series of leaks gave us most of its hardware specs and multiple images of what the smartphone would look like. With its official unveiling we now know the Moto X's final specs. The company also revealed its carrier partners and pricing, as well as details on how consumers would be able to customize the smartphone through a service offered by Motorola.

The Moto X features a 4.7-inch 720p AMOLED HD display and is powered by a custom dual-core 1.7Ghz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with Motorola's X8 Computing System and an Adreno 320 graphics processing unit (GPU), which is also used in the company's latest DROID series of smartphones for Verizon. The Moto X runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but should be updated to the latest Android 4.3 in the near future. The smartphone will be available in two storage capacities, 16GB and 32GB and includes 2GB of RAM. The rear camera is a 10-megapixel shooter and can record 1080p video, while its front-facing camera has 2 megapixels. When it comes to connectivity, the Moto X includes a 4G LTE radio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. Motorola has included a 2,200 mAh battery .

Motorola did not announce an exact release date, only saying that the smartphone would be available in late August or early September. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint will be offering the smartphone in a choice of black or white, priced at $199 for the 16GB model and $249 for the 32GB model.

When it comes to customizations, AT&T will initially receive the exclusive on that privilege, while other carriers are expected to gain the feature in the future. Motorola says that it is bringing over 2,000 customization options to the Moto X through an online customizer called MotoMaker. Customers will be able to choose from 16 different color options for the main body, along with seven different accent colors and wallpapers. The company is even offering a real wood option for the handset's back case. The company claims a 4-day turn-around or less when designing and purchasing the smartphone since it is being built in Texas.
