Everything seems to be online these days. You can order food online. You can make friends online. You can even buy a car online! Yep, you read that right.

While buying a car online may seem like the most convenient thing in the world, there are some things you have to keep in mind before you really buy one. Here are some of them:

Check Out Your Financing Options

Before you even start browsing online for your ideal car, make sure you have the means to pay for it to begin with.

According to an article by Reader's Digest, a national survey commissioned by Caravan showed that "71 percent of consumers who have ever taken out an auto loan are not aware of the total dollar amount of interest spent on their last loan."

Aside from that, the survey also showed that 69% "do not understand what a one percentage point reduction in their rate would save them."

Do NOT Forget to Do Your Research

Whether or not you are buying a car online, doing your research is still an important step to take before you even do anything else. According to an article by HowStuffWorks, it is very, very important "to determine the kind of vehicle you need and can afford, especially if you're on a tight budget."

You can also use this as an opportunity to decide whether or not you want to work with a dealership. Shoud you decide to work with a dealership, do your due diligence by researching the reputable dealerships available in the market.

Make Sure There is a Written Agreement

Another thing that you should not forget to do is to have all the details put into writing. As Reader's Digest points out, having tangible evidence of your agreement with the seller will give you a chance to bargain with other dealerships.

Not only that, it will also save you from misunderstandings that may cost you a lot of time and even money. Remember, putting things into writing means that you have proof you can use.

Request for a Vehicle History Report

Metal Floss points out that requesting for a vehicle history report is actually free and that there are websites that make requesting for one very convenient for you.

All you have to do as well is enter the car's VIN number in order to view its history of past collisions, if any, and even if its parts have been replaced. This will also help you verify any claims that the seller is making about the car you are interested to purchase.

The Return Policy

HowStuffWorks also recommends looking for a return policy if there is one for your desired vehicle.

You really will not know for sure if the car you purchased is in the condition you want it to be until you see it in person. If it is not, knowing the return policy may help spare you from all the hassle and even a pretty bad headache.
