Elon Musk: Tesla Robot Prototype Likely Ready This September — AI Day Delayed?

Elon Musk says the Tesla Robot prototype might be ready a few months from now in time for AI Day.

The CEO of Tesla, Musk, first unveiled its humanoid robot, which also goes by the name Optimus, back on Aug. 10, 2021, during the first AI Day of the tech giant, as per a news story by Bloomberg.

The billionaire says that the humanoid robot does what Musk describes as "unsafe, repetitive, or boring" tasks, such as making a room sparkling clean or getting fresh goods from the grocery.

But during that time, a working prototype of Optimus was nowhere in sight. Instead, the Tesla chief executive only described how the humanoid works.

The tech entrepreneur, Musk, said that it should see the light of day some time at the end of 2022.

Musk had to do a whole presentation showing us the size of the humanoid robot could be. The Optimus is about 5'8 tall, weighing roughly around 57 kilograms.

Although its dimensions are akin to a human person, an artificial intelligence (AI) system, which the giant EV maker also uses for its cars these days, controls it.

During the AI Day, the Tesla boss also envisioned a future wherein "physical work will be a choice."

Now, Musk tweets that the audience of the AI Day 2022 might get to see a working prototype of the humanoid robot of Tesla. The announcement of the tech billionaire received thousands of likes from excited fans on Twitter.

The CEO also teased in another tweet that the second Tesla AI Day would be an "epic" event.

Tesla AI Day Delayed?

It has been nearly a year since the billionaire entrepreneur introduced the Tesla Bot. It should mean that the second iteration of the AI Day is also inching closer.

According to a recent report by Electrek, the Tesla AI Day for this year is scheduled a year after its first inaugural event in 2021, supposedly on Aug. 19.

However, Musk also announced on Twitter, alongside the working prototype of the humanoid bot, that the AI Day 2022 has been slightly pushed to a much later date.

The Tesla CEO explained that the delay for the second AI Day is entirely due to the Optimus prototype as it expects a working timeline by around end of September.

So, instead of having the "epic" Tesla AI event in August, it has been moved to Sept. 30.
